Command-line FTP Instructions
I. Start FTP
- Open a command-line window (DOS prompt; if you don't have an icon, try clicking on 'Start', then 'Run', and in the dialog box type 'cmd' or 'command', then click 'OK')
- Change your current drive/directory to:
- the location of the files to be sent (uploaded) or
- the location where you want to receive the files (optional) (example: 'c:' and press <ENTER>, then 'cd \data' and press <ENTER>)
- Make sure that you have your user name and password ready BEFORE proceeding
- type 'ftp ftp.enertexmarketing.com' and press <ENTER>
II. Login
- Enter user name and password when prompted (contact your AE for this information)
Note: username and password is in lower case. If you mistype something and must re-enter info, perform the following:- At the ftp prompt, type 'user <user name> <current password>'
and press <ENTER> example: 'user ftpguest abc12345'
Note: system will reply with a welcome message when successfully login in.
- At the ftp prompt, type 'user <user name> <current password>'
and press <ENTER> example: 'user ftpguest abc12345'
III. Set up environment
If sending a compressed file (zip, tar):
- Change file transfer type to 'binary'
- At the ftp prompt, type 'binary' and press <ENTER>
- Change to the appropriate directory on ftp system
- type 'cd upload' and press <ENTER> to send files
- type 'cd download' and press <ENTER> to retrieve files
- type 'pwd' and press <ENTER> to display current directory
IV. Move files
- Upload files (send files to Enertex)
- type 'pwd' and press <ENTER> to make sure current directory is 'upload'
- type 'put' <filename> and press <ENTER>
- you may repeat to send additional files
- Download files (retrieve files from Enertex)
- type 'pwd' and press <ENTER> to make sure current directory is 'download'
- type 'get' <filename> and press <ENTER>
Note: file names are case-sensitive: please check case when retrieving/sending files
- When upload/download process is complete, you will receive message: port command successful
V. Finished
- Logout
- type 'bye' and press <ENTER> to exit
Instructions for WS_FTP Users
VI. General
There are many different FTP clients for all versions of Microsoft Windows, and it is impossible to write detailed instructions for all of them. The following instructions are based on WS_FTP Pro v7.02; you should be able to modify them to work with your particular FTP client/version.
VII. Setup and login
- Start WS_FTP Pro
- Create profile for Enertex Marketing
- choose 'File/Connect' from menu
- choose 'File/New Site' from menu
- name of site is 'Enertex FTP'
- Host name is 'ftp.enertexmarketing.com'
Note: At this point, you may choose to save the user name and password (account is blank) and other option by selecting 'Next', or you may select 'Finish' to complete adding the profile.
- Connect using newly created profile
- With the new profile highlighted, click on 'Connect'
- A 'Login Information' box will now appear. If you didn't save the username/password, please un-check the box 'Anonymous'; you may now enter the username and password (leave account blank)
- If the login was successful, you should see a 'download' and an 'upload' folder on the right side ('Remote System'), and your own files ('Local system') on the left. If not, please check the log window to make sure that you connected, and that you entered the correct password; you may need to re-try step C.1
- Sending Files
- In the 'Local system' window, please navigate to the folder where the files to be uploaded are stored.
- In the 'Remote system' window, please select 'upload' to send files. At this point, the path listing should be '/upload'. You are now ready to send files.
- File transfer
- mark the file(s) you wish to send in the 'Local system' window
- click on the '—>' arrow between the windows to send the files; a transfer progress box will display; please watch to verify that all of the file(s) transferred successfully.
- after transfer is complete, you can scroll the log window to see that the files transferred correctly. If you feel that they did not, you will need to rename the files before attempting to resend; you cannot delete the files on the 'Remote system', and duplicates are not allowed.
- repeat steps a-c until all files are uploaded
- exit program
- Receiving Files
- In the 'Local system' window, please navigate to the folder where the downloaded files are to be stored.
- In the 'Remote system' window, please select 'download' to retrieve files. At this point, the path listing should be '/download'. You are now ready to receive files.
- Receive files
- click on the '<—' arrow between the windows; a transfer progress box will display; please watch to verify that all of the file(s) transferred successfully.
- repeat step 'a' as necessary until all files are downloaded
- exit program
Instructions for Internet Explorer Users
VIII. Using IE Browser for FTP
- In the Internet Address bar, enter the following address: ftp://ftp.enertexmarketing.com
- You will be promped for a username and password, enter the information supplied by your Enertex Representative.
- Sending Files
- Click on the 'upload' folder
- Using Windows Explorer, you can either select and then copy the file to be uploaded, and then paste the file in the Internet Explorer window or you can use the drag and drop method.
- After transfer is complete, you will see the files in the Internet Explorer window. If you feel that they did not tranfer correctly, you will need to rename the files on your local system before attempting to resend; you cannot delete the files on the 'Remote system', and duplicates are not allowed.
- Receive files
- Click on the 'download' folder
- From Internet Explorer, you can either select and then copy the file to be received, and then paste the file in the Windows Explorer window or you can use the drag and drop method.
- After transfer is complete, you will see the files in the Windows Explorer window.
- Exit program.
