MERGE/PURGE

Merge/purge is commonly referred to as duplicate elimination.

When two or more mailing lists are used in a direct mail effort, it is common to merge (combine) the lists together and purge out any identified duplicate records.

It is not uncommon to find a duplication rate of 30 to 40 percent among similar lists, which makes this process essential to any successful direct mail campaign. A merge/purge eliminates the embarrassment of mailing duplicate records, and will save a client money by not wasting postage, paper and mail shop services.
