Founded in the 1950's by theatrical legend Joseph Papp, the Public Theater (aka NY Shakespeare Festival) produces Off Broadway plays that represent the finest in contemporary and classic fare. Most famous for their landmark 1976 production of "A Chorus Line," the Public Theater now produces a season of eight provocative productions ranging from works by Shakespeare to contemporary plays. The ethnic diversity of their audience is unparalleled in New York City.
